Floripa, short for Florianopolis, is the capital of the state of Santa Catarina in the southern part of Brazil. Rated as one of the best places to live in Brazil, it is known for its beautiful beaches for those who want to relax, and beautiful harbors for boaters the world over.
Many of the wealthy in Brazil have vacation homes in this area, but you don’t have to be rich to enjoy the wonderful scenery that you can find here. The Beaches – For many of us that have been to the beaches in both Rio de Janeiro and Floripa, the beaches in Floripa are more beautiful than even the ones found in Rio. They have over 40 different beaches from which you can choose, and for whatever the occasion. If, on the one hand, you like surfing, this is the place to be. Several of the beaches, particularly Praia Mole, have strong surf which makes them ideal for surfing. People have come to this beach, and other beaches nearby, from all over the world, just to go surfing. At most beaches, you can rent an umbrella and lounge chairs to allow you to enjoy yourself without the sunburn. Another thing that you should not, and this is true for most beaches in Brazil, is that there are always peddlers selling something – they could be offering food, soda, beer, sunglasses, articles of clothing, blankets, and whatever else you can think of. Because of this, you probably won’t have to go wandering around somewhere to find something to eat and drink, because they’ll come to you. Some of the beaches here are more out-of-the-way than others, and because of that, these beaches can be very quiet and serene.
Its Harbors – Most of Florianopolis resides on an island, and the natural harbors that separate the island from the mainland are beautiful places for boaters. Are you someone who takes adventures by sailing to different destinations throughout the world? If so, you will love the amenities that are available to those who travel to this city by boat. You will find much room in their harbors for your boat, and many marinas available for your boating needs.
Historic Architecture – If you like to look at architecture, you will definitely want to go to the historic center of this city, where you will find beautiful colonial architecture reminiscent of the time when the city was first growing, and which has a strong Portuguese and Azorean influence. Included in this colonial architecture are many old churches, museums, government palaces, the Public Market, and the rows of residential houses.
Vacation Center – Because of the large number of people throughout Brazil, and other parts of the world, that have vacation homes here, you’ll notice that the city of roughly 400,000 people nearly triples every summer as those people come to live in their second homes. This is mainly due to the high quality of life found in this city, as it is one of the most developed cities in all of Brazil. Their standards for services are particularly high, they have plenty of places for those who like to shop, and they have plenty of great restaurants and local cuisine that you’ll just love.
